12 Pentagons x Bal Harbour Village

The multi‑week activation transforms Bal Harbour Village into an interactive destination where art, craftsmanship, and sport converge ahead of Miami’s global soccer moment. As the city prepares to step onto the world stage during the most anticipated moments in international sport, Bal Harbour Village presents 12 Pentagons, a multi‑dimensional art installation and immersive activation by British multidisciplinary artist and football designer Jon‑Paul Wheatley, founder of the globally recognized football design studio 12 Pentagons.

The Artist

Jon‑Paul Wheatley

British artist and football designer Jon‑Paul Wheatley, founder of the globally recognized studio 12 Pentagons, is known for crafting one‑of‑a‑kind soccer balls that merge sport, design, and contemporary art. Through @jonpaulsballs, he has built an international following of more than 1.7 million by documenting his meticulous handcrafting process and transforming the traditional soccer ball into a sculptural storytelling object.

The Concept

The “Badly Drawn Ball”

Inspired by hand‑drawn soccer ball sketches submitted from around the world, the “Badly Drawn Ball” series reimagines one of sport’s most iconic symbols through a lens of creativity, imperfection, and global participation. Each ball becomes a sculptural object that celebrates individuality and community storytelling.

The Installation

A Monumental Centerpiece

  • Level 1 – Discover the acclaimed Badly Drawn Ball brought to life at the Center Courtyard of Bal Harbour Shops. Modeled after Wheatley’s signature “Badly Drawn Ball,” the piece transforms the open‑air luxury destination into a cultural landmark during Miami’s international soccer season.
  • Level 2: Browse and purchase official Badly Drawn Ball creations and collectibles.
  • Level 3: Design your own Badly Drawn Ball. Submit your drawing and become part of the global 12 Pentagons project.

We encourage you to leave your mark, create you own interpretations, and become part of the installation.

Next Location

Bal Harbour Beach

After its presentation at Bal Harbour Shops, the sculpture will relocate to Bal Harbour Village Beach from July 1–27, where it will take on new meaning against Miami’s iconic waterfront backdrop. The move celebrates Bal Harbour Village’s 80th anniversary and its legacy as one of South Florida’s most sought‑after oceanfront destinations.

Cultural Partnership

MOAD x FIFA Museum

Bal Harbour Village has partnered with the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) to offer complimentary access for Village residents and hotel guests to the FIFA Museum’s “Unidad – The World’s Game” exhibition at the Freedom Tower. The exhibition explores soccer’s cultural impact through historic artifacts, immersive installations, and a “Legacy of Champions” tribute.

This partnership expands the Village’s Unscripted Art Access Program, connecting residents and visitors to Miami’s leading cultural institutions.
