Seated Ballerina, a larger-than-life sculpture by celebrated American artist Jeff Koons, is permanently on display at Oceana’s beachside gardens. A fan of working with readymade objects, Koons reimagined Seated Ballerina from a porcelain figurine of a ballerina found in a Russian factory at the turn of the 20th century. The sculpture is from Jeff Koons’s Antiquity series, which began in 2008.

The piece is part of Jeff Koons’s acclaimed Antiquity series and is based off a porcelain sculpture of Pluto and Proserpina from the late 1700s in France. The artist embellished the sculpture with live flowering plants, emphasizing the relationship between life and art.
